Columbia protester Mahmoud Khalil freed from immigration detention • FRANCE 24 English

palestinian activist Mahmud Khalil walks free after more than three months in detention since his arrest by ICE agents in his New York apartment in March one of many foreign students arrested for participating in pro Palestinian activism he became a symbol of President Trump’s crackdown on campus protests and on immigration trump and his administration they chose the wrong person for this that doesn’t mean that there is a right person for this there’s no right person that who should be detained for actually protesting a genocide born in Syria to Palestinian parents Khalil came to the US legally and was a graduate student at Colombia at the time of his detention and even across the a visible leader in onampus pro Palestinian activism the Department of Homeland Security commented that his arrest was linked to quote President Trump’s executive orders prohibiting anti-semitism us Secretary of State Marco Rubio invoked a 1950s obscure law that allows for non-citizens to be removed from the country if they are seen as detrimental to US foreign policy however the federal judge did not agree petitioner is not a flight risk and the evidence presented is that he’s not a danger to the community period full stop the ruling is a setback to Trump’s aggressive policy on immigration justice will prevail no matter what this administration may try to portray portraying that immigrants are whether criminals or or or any of that trying to do all of this now the saga is sure to continue responding to the events a White House spokesperson released a statement Friday we expect to be vindicated on appeal and look forward to removing Khalil from the United States as a condition of his release Khalil has been ordered to turn over his passport and forbidden to travel internationally

Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil was released Friday from federal immigration detention, freed after 104 days by a judge’s ruling after becoming a symbol of President Donald Trump ’s clampdown on campus protests. Story by Simon Moritz.

  1. Hopefully they will rule so he can be kicked out. We do not want him here. It is not an obscure law. It's simply a law we haven't had to use for a while because people were mostly well behaved.

  2. a person on a visa organizing riots in the campus and the US can't deport him. absurd

can i come to any muslim country and do the same?
