WASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP), which is coming back for its 46th year.
The initiative is locally funded and provides young people in the nation’s capital with summer work experiences through subsidized placements in private and government sectors. People ages 14 to 24 can get involved in the program.

The program was also named in honor of former Mayor and MBSYEP founder Marion Barry.
Through MBSYEP, participants can:
Earn money and gain meaningful work experienceDevelop skills, attitudes and commitment necessary to succeed in today’s world of workGain exposure to various exciting career industriesInteract with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment
Local employers also play a part in the program by volunteering to serve as hosts and presenting job opportunities for youth.
Bowser will kick off the program at 11 a.m. at Trinity Washington University.
