Spaniards turn water guns on visitors in Barcelona and Mallorca to protest mass tourism

campaigners in at least a dozen tourist hotspots across southern Europe took to the streets in coordinated protest on Sunday a against mass tourism in Spain demonstrators squirted water guns at visitors in Barcelona and on the island of Mayora while hundreds more marched in Granada San Sebastian and in Ibisa spain’s tourism industry contributes 12% of gross domestic product but protesters say it’s fueling a housing crunch and erasing the character of their hometowns we can’t live in this city anymore it can’t take anymore neither the water resources nor the public transport which is overcrowded 12 months of the year rents are still rising the city is still overcrowded they are taking us out of our neighborhoods they are taking us out of our historic center i think that right now mass tourism brings poverty because the wages we are paid are not enough for us to live a big chunk of prices both of rent and consumption in general here in Barcelona are determined by tourist demand rather than people’s economic possibilities barcelona like other European cities is now beginning to be over the limit that can support the tourism industry it’s pushing us out of the city many residents are having to leave especially young people because they cannot find affordable housing in Barcelona barcelona

Protesters used water guns against unsuspecting tourists in Barcelona and on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Sunday as demonstrators marched to demand a rethink of an economic model they believe is fueling a housing crunch and erasing the character of their hometowns.

  1. Don't go where you're not welcomed:
"Spain's tourism sector is a major contributor to its GDP, accounting for over 12% in recent years. In 2023, tourism generated 186,596 million euros, which was 12.8% of the Spanish GDP, according to Doblemente"

  2. Funny how they don't like tourists that come with money, compared to all the border jumpers that come to the USA to take money.

  3. In my opinion, mass migration poses a greater threat than over-tourism. That’s the issue spanish should be protesting about, yet that’s not the case—they are living in a bubble.

  4. I hope the government does something for these people. Tourism should be regulated, if it's affecting the locals so much they can't live there!

  5. Like blaming the till girl at the supermarket for the high prices
Spanish are thick no wonder there being taken advantage of 🤡🤡

  6. People could save for years, go on their dream vacations be treated like this? No thanks. I visited Paris last year and half the women were wearing head scarves and half the men were out hustling and bothering people. Guy offered to sell me drugs and a woman. Total third world. Just stay home.

  7. Why aren’t they protesting the illegal aliens that are flooding our Western Countries instead? Tourists bring income, illegals cost us millions

  8. Agree,I don't think it's fair to turn your anger on the tourist. Your country has allowed that number of foreigners in.

  9. Tourists stay home, enjoy the beauty of your own country, spend your money at home supporting small businesses and fellow countrymen. That is my plan.

  10. With out tourist some of these country’s wouldn’t survive, they helps with so many things, if people stop going see what happens, Every one loves to travel

  11. This is a problem in many places. Many places have become absolutely unlivable due mass tourism, and yes it creates many other problems.

  12. I presume that this was in reality a state inspired protest that will conveniently lead to a heavy tourist tax.

  13. So they blame tourists instead of mass immigration? There’s scores of streets and houses in Lisbon completely taken over by Pakistanis 😂😂😂

  14. I am a blond English man, I love Spain, and I love speaking English in Spain, it's my passion! Speaking Spanish doesn't interest me at all, I make no effort!

  15. They disrespect tourists but they let in 10 million foreigners with nearly 7 million not being citizens. I guess they can't figure out that may be part of the problem.

  16. We should have been fid this in America. Hispanics have taken over. It's more of them than us an sneaking in or out staying their welcome. America needs to get them out. Asap
