Hello r/CasualUK people!

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust have updated their Facebook post this morning (and also sent me a personal message) and it's amazing – you're amazing – the mods have allowed one final Beelinda update as it goes to show your incredible generosity and kindness.

We can’t quite believe it.

We’re still crunching the numbers, and donations are still flying in, but so far around £3,000 has been raised in Beelinda’s memory since yesterday.

We cannot express our amazement and gratitude to everyone who has donated. 2024 was the worst year on record for UK bumblebees. This small act of kindness, which has sparked so many more, will help us in our mission to secure a future for bumblebees.

Thank you.

If you would like to donate in Beelinda’s memory you can do so here: https://www.bumblebeeconservation.org/donate

  1. I would just like to say a

    # MASSIVE THANK YOU

to everyone who donated and joined in memory of Beelinda. The good folk here on r/CasualUK are the best.

They’ve said they’ll update me when they’ve got a better idea of the numbers, so I’ll update you all here rather than another new post.

Edit: it’s my birthday on Monday – please donate to the Trust if you’ve enjoyed hearing about Beelinda and want to help Bumblebees.

  2. Wow, £3,000?! Well done CasualUKers, I’m sure the bees are buzzing about that

  3. Is there a moth charity? Because I’ve got about ten of those fuckers in my room right now and if they don’t leave me alone when I’m trying to sleep, they won’t be long for this world!

RIP Beelinda, you’re the hero this sub deserves

  4. PMS is hitting me hard today, this post has made me sob. For Beelinda 🫡

  5. Great, sat in the dentist waiting room crying over a bee 🐝 🌻

  6. You’re a good egg and I loved Beelindas wee air bee & bee you made her. I donated and also showed your post to my daughter. She’s got really into learning about helping bees and at the weekend we put up some bee hotels in our garden, she also found some bee friendly flower seed mix that we’ve ordered. You’ve inspired people to care and get involved as well, superb.

  7. Remember – gift aid for 40% taxpayers means you can claim 20-25% back as a tax refund on the donation at the end of the tax year. So donate more and claim it back!

I have made a note of them to add to my list of charities I donate to monthly and will start up in the next few months.

  8. I’ll be donating the minute I get paid Friday 🙂

Eta: I have a tiny “meadow” that’s about 12 foot by 5 foot lol but it’s full of flowers for the bees. Also a massive lavender, I leave the dandelions and have a bunch of potted flowers for them as well. No pesticides anywhere. So many bees 🐝

  9. I’m very glad to hear it, bees need all the help they can get.

I have the only proper garden on the street, everyone else is paved . I plant exclusively for bees and butterflies, and I have Bumblebees, Honey Bees and Carder Bees visit regularly

If you have a patch, even just a few pots of plants can help. Borage, Phacelia, Lavender, Geum, and Foxgloves are all great choices . If you have some green, leave some weeds for wildlife, like Dandelion and White Clover. It makes the difference

    Edit: Clarity

  10. Beelinda’s story made it on to r/BestofRedditorUpdates too. Hopefully they’ll update further with this and more money can bee raised.

  11. This is what makes me proud to be British! We have such big hearts & open our wallets to help those that need the most help, even if they aren’t able to say thank you.

£3000+ all because of a little bee named Beelinda. Thank you UK, from the bottom of my heart for this touching & loving act of generosity & kindness.

With love from a UK wildlife conservationist. ❤️

  12. This might be a good place to tell my little bumblebee story.

My daughter is 15, and whilst we’re from the UK, she’s lived overseas most of her life – currently in Australia.

Because of Covid, and other life stuff, we didn’t get to visit home for a good few years. But about 2 years ago, when she was ~13, we visited back home for a few weeks.

Arranged to meet some family for a walk in the country.

Few minutes in, daughter comes running to me , looking incredibly excited..
“ daddy , daddy … you got to come see the bees … they’re FLUFFY “

Was only then it occurred to me she’d never seen a bumblebee before.

  13. Just donated and gift aided. This is a wonderful cause and thank you and Beelinda for raising awareness.

  14. I’ve been so worried about the lack of bees which has become so glaringly obvious over the past few years. I will join up for membership.
