Marport has announced with profound sadness the passing of Gunnar Grímsson, the esteemed General Manager of Marport Norge (Norway) and Marport ehf (Iceland), who died on 18 June 2025, following a brief illness.

Mr Grímsson was a highly experienced General Manager with a strong background in the maritime industry, known for his expertise in management, international sales, business strategy, and project planning.

Gunnar Grímsson founded the Marport Norway office in 2017, successfully overseeing its growth into a profitable business over the past eight years. His leadership responsibilities expanded at the beginning of 2025, when he also assumed oversight of the company’s Iceland office. He held a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Høgskolen i Oslo, underscoring his technical foundation in the industry.

The company conveyed that Mr Grímsson will be dearly missed for his extensive knowledge, profound expertise, consistently positive outlook, and affable personality. The entire Airmar/Marport family has extended their full support to his family and to their colleagues in Norway and Iceland during this challenging time.

Gunnar Grímsson is survived by his wife, Unni, his children, Magnus and Marie, as well as his parents, siblings, and numerous relatives and friends across both Iceland and Norway.

Gunnar founded the Marport Norway office in 2017, successfully growing it over the past eight years into a profitable business. He assumed oversight of the Iceland office at the beginning of this year. We will dearly miss his knowledge, expertise, positive outlook, and affable personality.
