THE Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, Kristalina Georgieva has announced her intention to appoint Sabina Bhatia as Director of the Fund’s Corporate Services and Facilities Department, CSF.

Bhatia, currently Deputy Secretary in the IMF’s Secretary’s Department, will succeed Brian Christensen, whose appointment as Director of the Human Resources Department was previously announced. Bhatia will assume her new role on September 1, 2025.

An Indian national, Ms. Bhatia joined the IMF in 1994 and has built a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years. She has held senior roles in both the Secretary’s Department and the Communications Department, where she led high-impact institutional initiatives and strategic communications campaigns that were crucial to enhancing the Fund’s efforts to serve its membership.

“Sabina is a deeply respected leader with a proven track record of delivering results across a wide range of institutional priorities,” said Ms. Georgieva. “Her deep understanding of the Fund’s operations, her commitment to staff, and her ability to lead with empathy and vision make her exceptionally well-suited to head CSF.”

As Deputy Secretary, Ms. Bhatia has played a central role in supporting the operations of the IMFC Chair and Deputies, organizing the Annual Meetings—including in Marrakech in 2023—and advancing key institutional reforms such as the 16th General Review of Quotas and the Fourth General Allocation of SDRs. She also contributed to the implementation of the Managing Director’s Global Policy Agenda and led the development of a new framework for Board operations during the transition from remote to hybrid work.

In her earlier position as an Advisor in the Communications Department, Ms. Bhatia helped lead the Fund’s communications during the global financial crisis. She also expanded the Fund’s engagement with civil society organizations, think tanks, academics, parliamentarians, unions, and youth.

“Sabina brings to CSF a unique blend of strategic insight, operational experience, and a deep commitment to service,” Ms. Georgieva added. “I am confident she will build on the department’s strong foundation and boldly lead its next chapter of innovation and excellence.”
