>The plant owners’ French energy firm EDF said that the safety case had been superseded by an agreed new one in May 2024, which increased the allowance to an unspecified new level making it compliant in a move that echoed what happened at Hunterston B.
OK
>Energy consultant Pete Roche, who has been policy adviser to the Scottish Nuclear Free Local Authorities echoed the call for Torness to close.
🤦
Total non-story. The regulator says it is still safe, the crusties disagree. As they always do.
Scaremongering pish
It’s probably fine. But if it’s not, I guess this is what happens when you block any new nuclear power stations in the country and instead extend the life of the old one.
Replace it. The best time to build a nuclear power plant was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.
Just another story seeking clicks by saying scary things without context.

Nuclear power is the answer to our growing electricity needs

Or you could trade it all in for what’s in this box….
As someone who worked at Hunterston B for years, same type of AGR, these cracks are nothing to worry about if monitored carefully and load reduced accordingly. This is what happens when a country’s government doesn’t invest in nuclear power for idealistic reasons because of the “scary nuclear stuff” they don’t understand. Nuclear power is required and should’ve been built years ago to maintain our base load.
This is the result of government opposed to nuclear but with no plan to fill the gap.
We needed a new plant 10-20 years ago. Now it’s impossible to get a new one for another 10-15 years. Fantastic energy policy.
Build more please
The push for nuclear power in Scotland is simply down to the growing needs of England & Wales, Scotland has vast areas of wilderness that could be exploited & rare earth tritium, which is one of the elements required, Scotland doesn’t need Nuclear energy.
Wait a minute, I thought Nuclear was completely safe! (/s)
We need to continue to invest in Solar, Wind and tidal energy as well as storage. We don’t need, or want Nuclear.
Apart from anything, it would take 20 years to operationalise and would, as always, run over budget.
That budget could be used to better provide energy via renewables.
There is no need for Nuclear in Scotland.
