You’d think after threatening legal action they’d have taken the hint.

  1. Do they have Live TV on any of the bottom providers (bar Sky Go and ITVX)? I know they have Live things, but they’re nearly always done through a streaming service in the case of Amazon, while the rest tends to be catchup TV, or livestreams by the broadcaster

Just seems deliberately all over the gaff

  2. You’re one of the nine in ten people they harass, according to that letter.

  3. Just tell them the only streaming service you watch is Go Do One.

  4. I don’t think the tv licence would be so much of an issue if it was just called a tax

But the fact its called a license and the amount of predatory letters that are sent, no wonder people hate it. And rightly so

  5. I mean if you are happy to write to them (which I presume you did if you threatened them with legal action – on what basis I wonder?) you might as well tell them you don’t need licence every two years. I told them once and now I just file their letters in the bin or use them as fire lighters.

  6. Mad folk who think they’re on some fight against evil no paying their tv licence.

  7. Your post actually reminded me I need to send back mine, I accumulated quite a pile of this shite

  8. I get letters even though I actually have one. They have the address wrong. Told them five times, did return to sender, everything. Lol. Just going to stop paying it because they send letters anyway 😛 Not seen a single enforcement guy in 10 years.

  9. Oh I got one too. I’ve just ignored it with a clear conscience. Don’t let it worry you.

  10. This makes me think I could get away without a tv licence. I don’t watch or record live tv on any of these services.

  11. Once every few weeks l would delivery to one house that had been abandoned for years.

  12. I’m amazed they only have a 10% success rate with their inspectors. Does everyone now know you don’t need to let them enter the house?

  13. Just sign up on the page to say you don’t need a licence.

I’ve never had a licence and only get these letters when my exclusion has lapsed and I need to fill it out again, it takes less than 10 minutes.

  14. Put it in the bin and not Reddit.

Nearly half of this subs users get the exact same letter.

  15. That’s a new one. I thought i had collected all the letters by now. So watching youtube and Netflix you need a tv licence now? What a load of pish

  16. Here are some tips bud:

    1. Ignore the letter
    2. If an inspector comes to your door NEVER identify yourself, always get them to identify themselves and once they do say they are a TV license inspector be polite and shut the door on them as you ain’t legally obliged to answer their questions
    3. Don’t ever let them in your home unless there is a warrant from a judge and the warrant is signed by a judge

  17. I eventually got round to telling them I don’t need a TV license, so I’m just waiting for a visit. They will not be entering my property, especially as I am a lone female.

  18. It’s literally 2 clicks on link in the email they send me that no, I still don’t watch TV, once every 3-4 years. It takes more time to moan about it on reddit.

  19. They put the option on the site to opt out so people would voluntarily enter their names and addresses 😂 now they have what they need! Always best to leave it to the occupier 😉

  20. So thats what the inside of one of those letters look like..

  21. Lmao the live tv on streaming services line is so sneaky

  22. I’m from Germany and have no idea what this is, can someone give some context?

  23. TV license doesn’t pay channel 4 or YouTube or sky so maybe we should send them a letter back asking why they aren’t?

  24. Tv licences are just one of many pieces of evidence that the UK is not a serious country.

  25. News to me that anybody is watching live TV on Netflix…

  26. I’d be curious to see just how much money they spend trying to “catch” TV cheaters.

  27. I was just wondering if there’s been any talk within the government about possibly abolishing the TV licence? Is it something they might consider in the future?

  28. I mean, it’s just an automated boilerplate letter, probably automatically goes out to every household which has completed the no licence needed declaration more than six months ago and still shows as not having a license.

Harassment seems like a bit of hyperbole for a letter you can just chuck in the bin if you don’t like it.

  29. Delay, Deflect, Defer until December 2027, word in the CS is that it’s very likely gone *finally* after that

  30. I’m a non UK person and fascinated by this. Is this basically a tax by another name? What is it intended to support?
