Benton Harbor explores ‘Business Improvement Zone’ to revitalize downtown area

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WSBT) — The city of Benton Harbor is exploring a new plan to improve downtown businesses.

Cornerstone Alliance is proposing what’s called a “Business Improvement Zone.”

That’s according to our newsgathering partners at WSJM Radio.

This zone allows for a special assessment to be used to pay for things like beautification or maintenance.

This could be new sidewalks, fountains, lighting, and even promoting events.

Another presentation is expected at the next Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting.
