  1. Shouldn’t they all have read it already as part of their job?

  2. Why isn’t this mandatory anyway? If your job is to vote on bills, shouldn’t you know what’s in them?

  3. Do what you gotta do to deal with these brown short nazi wannabe fascists.

The “journalists” folding and going along with it, you don’t deserve to call yourself one anymore.

  4. It’ll be the first time Republicans hear what’s in it, too!

  5. THat’s only 12 hours, but still a good thing btw

  6. They should make Grassley read it. He’d read it so slowly and would probably fall asleep, giving us a couple weeks of reprieve.

  7. The problem is the MAGAs will just go “nuh uh” even when you read it to them.

  8. don’t just read it, let’s see the differences to what’s actually in place and analysis.

  9. Elon should read the bill out loud to TSLA investors too

  10. Needs to be read in ELI5 format so that congress members can actually understand it.

  11. I want to know when they’ll start. I’d like to see if I can read Infinite Jest before they finish the bill.

  12. This should be required for every single bill that gets voted on in both chambers. It’s fucking insane that these assholes are allowed to vote on laws when they don’t even know what is in them let alone understand the content or it’s ramifications.

  13. TLDR: The bill itself is packed full of [perks for Republican lawmakers](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/maga-senators-use-donald-trumps-bill-to-hand-themselves-massive-perk/) and [threats to democracy](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/hidden-threat-to-democracy-slipped-into-trumps-big-beautiful-bill/)

Marjorie Taylor Greene [expressed her regret](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/marjorie-taylor-greene-admits-she-didnt-read-trump-mega-bill-she-voted-for/) she admitted she didn’t know what was in it.

[Trump wrote](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hates-one-part-of-his-big-beautiful-bill-giant-scam/) that he “hates” the “green tax credits” buried deep in the the monstrous tome.

The ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act’—comes in at 940 pages, just shy of the entire The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

In the time it takes Frodo to walk from the Shire to the fires of Mount Doom, Republicans lay out a sprawling series of measures that include $3.8 trillion in tax cuts and spending that could add as much as $4.5 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.

  14. Why is this not standard operating procedure? And look at Chuck. Vowing to do something.

  15. Sorry, this is political theater. You’re delaying it by hours, on a Sunday, instead of making a bigger deal out of it before the vote. The Dems spent too much time yapping about the NY Mayoral race.

  16. Fox News has convinced the right that all  government handouts go to illegal aliens/brown people.  Time for them to “find out”.

  17. Good. Read it slowly and have Q&A after each paragraph. Really eat up some time.

  18. If you made Trump read it, it would take the rest of his presidency.

  19. It will still pass. We had power with Biden but he hired garland and could have deemed Trump a threat but here we are. He was a good man but we need someone who fights like McConnell but for the good of the people

  20. It’s story time in the most expensive nursing home!

  21. Every single bill should be read out loud in it’s entirety and each section debated at the time. Every single bill.
These assholes don’t even have a clue what they are voting for

  22. Democrats had the chance to be ruthless fuckers like republicans and instead spent 12 years twiddling their dicks. Now we’re reduced to performative stunts.

  23. How do we know that they’re paying attention and reading along and not actually goofing off on their phones?  They themselves should be taking turns to read this out loud.

  24. No Republican will seat there to hear it -this country is screwed and you can kiss democracy good bye. Every one of us needs to watch our backs. No one is safe anymore thanks to all that voted republican.. Even the SCOTUS back him on most everything.

  25. delayed the doom by 14 hours. amazing. great work schumer.

  26. That isn’t even a filibuster. That’s just the required reading that should have been done already.

  27. It’s crazy that politicians are allowed to vote on things they never even bothered to read. It should be illegal and they should all be retired to take tests on them.

Maybe if we treated them like students, they wouldn’t try and screw us over so often making almost $200k a year and insider trading daily.

  28. Too bad they can’t stop the reading then quickly vote nay while the republicans are out of the chamber

  29. Is there a way to see who is actually in attendance for the reading?

  30. Delay isn’t really a solution. Is Batmam on his way? If so, maybe delay makes sense.

I suppose the hope is that by delaying the vote, it might get more news coverage and people might complain to their GOP senators. That seems like it has a very low possibility of changing the outcome. Maybe they just want to be seen in the news as opposing? Maybe it’s better than doing nothing? I don’t know.

The ideal time for action was during the previous term. But life does not have a Back button. What is the best path forward? Midterms?

  31. It’s like everything else…..reading it out-loud means nothing.

Republican American politician are working for the interests of the corporations who funded their campaigns and their lobbyist.

The working class and marginalized communities have been turned into America’s Fools. The American rich are doing everything they can to help themselves prosper even more. It seems the poorest underserved Americans approve of those realities without question.

  32. I don’t even see this as a delay tactic. This is literally the only way for anyone to have a chance to read the bill before the vote.

All the crooked underhanded things hidden in The middle of it will be exposed. Will this have any effect? Maybe. I saw a bunch of gop congressmen saying they didn’t read the last iteration, and they were banking on it being too long to read before the vote.

They can no longer claim they didn’t know exactly what was in it.

  33. Doesn’t it seem like it should be read by everyone voting on it? The bill includes a section that gives donors a **100% federal tax credit** for funding private school scholarships through SGOs (Scholarship Granting Organizations).
(Search “Education Freedom Scholarships” in [H.R. 1 on Congress.gov](https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1/text)).

  34. If everyone who votes in favour of a bill had to personally read it out loud to confirm that they want it, you might end up with understandable bills (or at least readable) that address precise topics. All those who haven’t read it would have to vote against (or present) instead of signing a blank check.

  35. They should have a test on it afterwards and have to pass it to vote on it.

  36. As I said before, read EVERY bill in its entirety no matter who proposes it. The people need to know what’s going on in government

  37. Delay as long as they can till 2026 midterms. Might be a bloodbath for the republicans. Hopefully we can control the House. Then senate and eventually win the Presidency. One can dream and hope but we have to fight tooth and nails
