Hiya, went for a swim just after sunset with a mate last night in Basel, and quite quickly we realised that the parts of our bodies that were underwater (pretty much everything but our heads) were covered in some sort of insects. We'd wipe them off and then almost immediately they'd be back. We weren't getting bitten, but it freaked us out a bit so we got out and checked ourselves. We probably had hundreds on us! Other people were swimming too, but we didn't ask if they also were also experiencing swarms of these creatures. It's the first time this has happened to either of us whilst swimming in the Rhine. Does anyone know what they were and why they behaved this way?
Photo of one that came off of me in the shower at home.

Never happened to me wierd
Try r/whatbugisthis/ and maybe take a sharp image after it dried
this is feeding into my conspiracy theories of swiss insects mutating and becoming more aggresive
Caddisflies according to a source I am not allowed in to mention here.
Should not be dangerous and is normal from what I read.
That’s just a piranha fly, it just bites a tiny bit from your flesh and it’s good. It doesn’t need a lot.
To me it sounds like you went swimming in the nature and are weirded out that you found… nature.
