Trump claims ‘win’ as NATO agrees massive spending hike • FRANCE 24 English
for all intents and purposes it was Donald Trump’s NATO summit meetings and the final declaration were kept short and sweet and the headline pledge was a major defense spending boost to keep the US president on side
in a very historic milestone this week the NATO allies committed to dramatically increase their defense spending to that 5% of GDP something that no one really thought possible and they said “You did it sir you did it.” Well I don’t know if I did it but I think I did
spain has a notable exemption to the 5% target after the prime minister said that the country was unable to meet it but for many European leaders in the face of the threat posed by Russia increased defense spending has become a necessity we must do this for ourselves to be more independent and with this funding Europe must also foster innovation and a defense industry not just buy from others currently Europe buys most of its military equipment from the United States in return the alliance’s 32 leaders got some reassurance from Trump over NATO’s collective security guarantee after the American president cast doubt on it while on route to the Hague the final declaration expresses the country’s ironclad commitment to come to each other’s aid if attacked i came here because it was something I’m supposed to be doing and I left here differently i I left here saying that these people really love their countries it’s not a ripoff and we’re here to help them protect their country
in contrast to his prominence at other recent NATO meetings Vladimir Zalinski was not in the room for most of the summit in another concession to Trump but European allies were still keen to send a message of support our aim is to keep Ukraine in the fight today so that it can enjoy a lasting peace in the future and will continue to support Ukraine on its irreversible path to NATO membership
the Trump administration has been reluctant to support Ukraine against Russia and has vetoed Ukraine’s bid to join NATO for the foreseeable future
NATO countries agreed Wednesday to massively ramp up their defence spending to satisfy US President Donald Trump, who hailed it as a “monumental win” for America — and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to protect its European allies. FRANCE 24’s Emerald Maxwell reports.

Blackmailing win
None of those countries are going to do it 😂 the USA has no way of monitoring. And there are no military threats against Europe. Russias military is a joke. Russia is fighting europe on tiktok and instagram.
This is the problem with european mentality. None of this is about a win for Trump, or us Americans. It is about those who are suppose to be our allies being able to adequately defend themselves. There are very serious questions about Europes military reliability.
