Brussels – The ALDE, the European Liberal Party, has now expanded its membership. It now also includes the Freedom Movement, a Slovenian party, the Moderates, a Danish party, and the Continue the Change, a Bulgarian party. The transition was formalized at the party council meeting in Helsinki at the weekend.

The European group, now composed of 73 parties, also discussed the future of European security and defense, meeting under the slogan ‘Securing Tomorrow.‘

“Our family is in the driving seat when it comes to security. We need to take decisive steps towards a stronger and safer Europe. The EU must rise to become an economic superpower, a defense superpower, and a diplomatic superpower, not for the sake of power but for the sake of surviving as a democracy. We need a united front to defend democracy against autocracies,” ALDE President Svenja Hahn said at the event.

The Liberals have already adopted nine emergency resolutions on various issues, including the shortcomings of freedom of assembly in Hungary and the integration of Ukraine within the European Union.
