Doing PR stuff sure gonna help the frontline /s
I mean whats the point of this announcement both side use PFM 1 both side also accuse each other using it and so on.
Mines are a defensive weapon, not offensive. They can try mining their side, but that just makes their stated goal of liberating all the lands they’ve lost look even more silly, while the Russian demand that they just accept those lands as gone look more in keeping with even Ukraine’s own actions. Zelensky doesn’t even talk about counteroffensives even for the regions taken since 2022 anymore, let alone taking back Crimea. Yet politically they still keep insisting that all territory they’ve lost will be gained back…somehow. Moves like this just make the gulf between what they say and what they’re doing even wider.
Man even the two Koreas look more reasonable at this stage. Zelensky desperately wants to avoid accepting a stalement like they did, likely cos he’s terrified the west will lose interest if the fighting dies down – and leave Ukraine to deal with the fallout of a 36%! plus defense spending relative to GDP that’s only possible with extensive western support. Any winding down of that will see their economy plummet into the netherworld. And combined with the demoralization of having to accept the loss of land, will likely lead to the sort of public unrest that the patriotic war has staved off all this time. There’ll just be a massive upwelling of bitterness at the pointlessness of the last few years
