The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gave Venture Global (VG) the go-ahead to start a key phase of an expansion project at its recently in-service Plaquemines LNG export terminal.
On June 25, the FERC notified VG that it could introduce natural gas into the gas turbine generator for the Phase 2 facility at the plant. The second phase of construction at the plant is expected to begin production in 2026 and would eventually bring the overall facility’s production to 27 million tons a year (mtpa) of LNG.
Venture Global reached the final investment decision on Phase 2 in March 2023.
In March 2025, Venture Global announced another brownfield expansion at the facility that will increase production to more than 45 mtpa.
During the first phase of construction, the FERC gave VG permission to introduce hazardous fluids into the train in July 2024. The plant reached its first production six months later.
