The change follows an investigation into the prince's duchy and the the King's Duchy of Lancaster estate, which found they had secured rental agreements worth millions of pounds from public bodies.

Talking about the rent change, Will Bax, the duchy's new secretary and keeper of records said: "It would be remiss not to address the media scrutiny the duchy has experienced this past year.

"We've used these challenges as an opportunity to stop and reflect, both the duke and I are clear that we want the duchy to be world class in our approach to supporting people, communities and nature to flourish and to realise that aim, we must operate and communicate in a modern, socially-minded way."

He added: "It's clear we've entered an era of deep change, but we change, not because we disrespect our past, but precisely because we do respect it."

  1. That is great. These kind of scrunity should be done, so that it is brought to attention and changes can be made. William is already changing ways to run Duchy (visiting people who are tenants there and stuff). So this is right move forward.

  2. Damn, can’t even do a decent quote. Doing this due to the media scrutiny.

Keep up the scrutiny because they are not going to be generous on their own.

  3. This is surprising but welcomed, more landlords should be scrutinized like this to see if they change a bit too even if they’re not a royal * stares at Hugh Grosvenor * lol

  4. This is a good move and an example of why institutions such as the monarchy should be scrutinized and have greater transparency

  5. It’s a start. I’m glad they are responding to public concern.
