The facial reconstruction they did a few years ago was really fascinating.
Oh there’s the skull of a traitor
My Dad was invited to meet the current Bruce Charles at Broomhall House and took me along. They have a skull cast too and he brought it out for us to actually hold. Also let us hold Bruce’s Sword of State.
Born in Essex they reckon. A French speaking Anglo-Norman with a Scots mother. So he qualified to play for Scotland through his mum.
OH MY GAWD, THAT’S MY GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT GRANDADDY. I’D RECOGNISE THOSE CHEEK BONES ANYWHERE.
His arse is buried in Dumbarton
I’ve been listening to the *Rex Factor* podcast on the Scottish monarchs* just because I knew so little about them, and it really is striking how ridiculously impressive Robert the Bruce’s accomplishments and achievements actually were when you actually hear about them. I hadn’t realised just how big a reversal of fortune for Scotland he was able to achieve, and how much he stands out next to most of the other Scottish kings.
*I think it’s a good listen, except for the many mispronunciations of Scottish place names that everyone in Scotland still knows. I imagine that might grate on a lot of the people in this thread more than it grates on me
This man slaughtered thousands in aberdeenshire and sent his psychotic brother to invade Ireland, causing another humanitarian catastrophe

Alongside us were folk from the BBC who recorded a snippet on the day. [Radio Scotland – Charles Bruce](https://youtu.be/EIRFQDnK8dg?feature=shared)
