It makes sense although I can see why train buffs would be sad to see it go! They have been taking normal trains since forever to e.g. go to Sandringham. Japan also has a royal train but you see them more and more taking public trains. The expense just isn’t justifiable imo.
I wonder about the logistics/security and how it works. Judging from this [video with Kate](https://m.youtube.com/shorts/Wn6_iarhkfY) they seem to be a small team joining a normal carriage for a small visit, but if it’s the King with a full staff doing a regional tour, do they have the ability to just pay the train companies to add another carriage or something and then cordon off that area on the platform for the red carpet? Or they get first dibs to book the existing service so we’ve never had the King in seat 13 and the Queen over in 21 because someone else got there first lol.
