The dialogue between Belarus and the United States is developing – as stated by Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs at the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov to journalists following a meeting of deputies, members of the working group of the National Assembly on the affairs of Belarusians who live abroad with representatives of the US Republican and Democratic parties, public figures and entrepreneurs who arrived in the republic at the invitation of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus
At the meeting hosted by the House of Representatives on July 2nd, the American guests were informed on the work of the Belarusian MPs, as well as the history of Belarusian parliamentarism. The meeting also touched upon the topic the Belarus-US relations, and Mr. Rachkov noted the importance of resuming communication and dialogue with representatives of the United States who are interested to learn more about the real situation in Belarus. “The Belarusian side made it very clear that we have always advocated and continue to advocate good, kind relations with the United States based on mutual respect and equality. The American side has fully accepted the information that we shared with the delegation members.”
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the issues of big politics and geopolitics.
“We understand that the situation in international relations is very difficult, a multipolar world is being formed. The Republic of Belarus plays a significant role in our region, in Eastern Europe. We are interested in establishing good relations with our neighbours, with Western countries. As we can see, upon President Trump’s return to the White House, the American administration is demonstrating a very serious impact on the ongoing processes, including in the European region. The recent meeting between President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and the US President’s Special Envoy, Keith Kellogg, showed that our dialogue is developing. We hope that parliamentarians, including members of the House of Representatives, will make their contribution to establishing and restoring contacts with the United States, including with the US Congress,” the MP said.
Mr. Rachkov added that that the delegation had arrived to participate in the events dedicated to Belarus’ Independence Day, “Yesterday [July 1st], the guests took part in a solemn meeting dedicated to Independence Day and a concert programme. They are greatly impressed by what they saw and heard.”
The Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs remarked, “I have just returned from Portugal, where the 32nd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was held. Based on the results of my participation in the meeting, I would like to note that the attitude towards the Republic of Belarus is obviously changing. Our delegation was treated with great interest and respect, and our speeches were listened and reacted to very attentively. In particular, our speech was highly appreciated by the Chairperson of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, who agreed that it is now necessary to unite European and Eurasian security and thanked the Belarusian parliamentarians for their active participation in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly events.”
