A 53-year-old Nigerian man was arrested upon arrival at Malta International Airport after authorities discovered he had ingested approximately one kilogram of suspected high-purity cocaine.

The arrest took place late Wednesday evening following a joint inspection operation involving the Malta Police Force, Customs officials, and Detention Services. The passenger had just arrived on a flight from Brussels when he aroused suspicion during routine checks.

An x-ray examination confirmed the presence of a significant number of capsules concealed within his digestive system. He was immediately transferred to Mater Dei Hospital, where medical staff confirmed he had swallowed around 100 capsules containing the illicit substance.

The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is around €300,000.

The man remains in custody as investigations continue.
