Meghan Markle is a sore subject for a lot of the royal family. And in the midst of a lot of family drama, including King Charles’ illness, the continued feud between the King and his son Prince Harry, not to mention Prince William’s frosty relationship with his brother, it seems like anything Meghan just raises the stakes. For the royal family, or at least for the reporting around the royal family.
Now, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has spoken about Markle’s decision to debut her new brand on the late Princess of Wales’s birthday, telling The Sun that this move “struck a very specific nerve” within the Royal Family, particularly with Prince William.

According to Schofield, a palace insider said, “It’s not lost on Prince William that Meghan has launched an alcohol brand on his mother’s birthday, the very mum he lost in a drink driving tragedy,” adding that “When I asked if there was anger at Meghan for using Diana‘s birthday to promote her commercial products, my source replied: ‘It’s what he’s come to expect from her’” and adding that “He doesn’t think much of her,” refering to William.
Schofield herself added her commentary, saying, “Timing an alcohol launch to Diana’s birthday wasn’t just a misstep, it was borderline cruel.” She added, “To claim ignorance here doesn’t hold up-it wasn’t just insensitive. It felt like a betrayal of the very narrative she’s working so hard to craft.”
On July 1st, Markle’s lifestyle brand officially launched its debut rosé. The wine, which has since sold out, was available to purchase in sets of three for $90, half a case for $159, and a full case for $300. The date also holds significance for another reason. Prince Harry revealed in his memoir Spare that he and Markle first connected on Instagram that day, July 1, in 2016.
All of this comes as conflicting reports about the relationship between King Charles and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have surfaced. First, there were reports that the King would want them to be heavily involved with his funeral, including their children as well. Then, there were reports that Prince Harry might invite his father, and perhaps even the rest of the royal family, to the next Invictus Games, which are taking place in Birmingham in 2027.
However, there are also reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to get new passports for their children amid a possible return to the royalty and leaving open the possibility of the two of them choosing one day to be working royals. However, the two have faced complications during what’s supposed to be a pretty easy process, leading them to believe the source of the problems is King Charles.
Buckingham Palace denied these allegations, saying, “King Charles, battling cancer and governing an entire monarchy, has better and more important matters to handle than meddling in passport applications.”
The Daily Mail even reported that King Charles found it “incredulous and bemusing, to say the least,” the notion that his grandchildren from Harry, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet, could ever be working royals after their parents stepped back from the royal family in 2020. And it’s not just King Charles, Prince William is set to be against any attempt by his nephew and niece to ever become working royals. And considering William is set to be king next, it seems like that is the final word on that.
