Hey everyone,
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on what's been happening recently at the Polish-German border.

There’s been a lot of tension lately: Poland is reintroducing temporary border controls, Germany is sending back migrants under the Dublin procedure, and now some “citizen patrols” have appeared on the Polish side, which sparked reactions from the government and the public.

Do you think these measures are necessary or overblown? Are the citizen patrols helpful or dangerous? How is this affecting local communities, cross-border workers, and public sentiment?

Would love to hear perspectives from people living in the border regions, as well as from anyone following the political and social implications.

  1. I live at Polish-German border and the only problem are those Nazis harassing people because for some reason they think not looking Polish enough is a good reason to insult someone.

  2. Bunch of clowns, especially those in “police” vests

  3. I think it’s completely fucked up that the Germans are just dropping illegals at a neighboring country’s border. This is not what the Schengen zone was created for.

As for the citizen patrols, I completely understand their concerns, the only question I have is whether seeing a crowd of angry people in safety vests would be enough for the Germans to reconsider doing what they’re doing. If they’re just gonna drop some browns into that crowd regardless, it might not end well.

  4. They’re at best useless, at worst harassing random people. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got the news of them beating up some random tourist soon.

  5. No, Germany always invades Poland in autumn, so nothing to worry at this point.

  6. Art. 227 K.K.

Kto, podając się za funkcjonariusza publicznego albo wyzyskując błędne przeświadczenie o tym innej osoby, wykonuje czynność związaną z jego funkcją,
podlega grzywnie, karze ograniczenia wolności albo pozbawienia wolności do roku.

  7. These are mobs of random angry people. They might pose a danger if they don’t like your vibe.

  8. 1. PL government should sue DE government for keeping the controls on their side for this long and for not actually following “Dublin procedures” (e.g. by dumping immigrants on the other side of the border without even contacting Polish border guards)
    2. PL government should not introduce controls on the PL side of the DE-PL border
    3. PL government should order the police to arrest any perpetrator of criminal acts at the border, including but not limited to: pretending to be border guards, unlawfully stopping cars and pedestrians, unlawfully performing searches and any other crimes these people commit.
    4. PL politicians openly supporting criminals mentioned in #3 should be stripped of parliamentary immunity and prosecuted for inciting crimes.

In the border regions, there are thousands of people either living in DE and working in PL or living in PL and working in DE. They have already been fucked by DE border controls, now there’s also PL border controls on top of that and this sorry bunch of far-right thugs. Everything here is an absolute disgrace.

    > Do you think these measures are necessary or overblown?

It is overblown, 95% astroturfed into a PR event for the far-right parties. If it wasn’t, the far-right thugs from “cIvIC pAtRoLs” would have caught someone already, lol, and not just harassed other Poles.

  9. Those “citizen patrols” should be taken down by police, every time they appear.

The “illegal migrants from Germany” is a excellent propaganda action, and it seems that government is not countering right.

  10. Unemployed terminally online Sebas the rest of the country is laughing at. It’s gonna get fun if they end up harassing some random tourist and the actual police steps in.

  11. I guess in two weeks they will find another object of hate toward foreigners and will move on as they will be bored. Anyway this whole situation is bullshit, even citizens of the towns at the border said that there are no imigrants visible.

  12. Since you are asking whether to be scared (while traveling, I guess?) – just don’t stop for them, ever. Or stop, but with doors locked. They demand to search people’s vehicles. From legal standpoint they are no different than any agressors or road ragers and you have every right to defend yourself if they get physical. They have no power at all and if they ever try to force their way into your vehicle you absolutely can push over them in self defense.

They are far more on a dangerous side. They might not be hostile from the start, but they have zero tools and knowledge to actually tell a legal migrant from illegal. The only thing they consider is appearance.

Most importantly, once again – they are just cosplayers with no power. Don’t make them feel like they have any.

  14. As a German this is the worst solution by Merz and I fully understand the Polish on this one. We should enforce the outer borders and get these people back home and not push them back to Poland. This is so stupid and anti EU in practice. We should cooperate to get these people out of the EU and I’m sure the Polish would be glad to help in that case bc it would actually be the right thing to do

  16. If those “migrants” are so good, why is Germany dropping them in the middle of nowhere at night?

  17. I think Germany is breaking the European law by checking every single car on its border.

  18. The only thing you should be worried, are those idiots in yellow vests, calling themselves “citizen patrol”. Those morons have no right to stop, search or check anyone’s identity. Let Border Patrol(” Straż Graniczna”, or “SG”) do their job.
Those “citizen patrols” are led by a criminal, thief, a nazi guy, Robert Bąkiewicz. He has multiple prosecutor’s charges, and history of belonging to nationalist organizations and militia.

  19. I feel like this is something completely blown out of proportion by populist politicians. Nothing more

  20. no, they’re overblown completely like shooting a duck with a himars, it’s just the right wing parties are making a gigantic deal out of almost thin air and the current government scrambles to do something to not give them more food for stirring artificial anxiety. this is a giant waste of money and human resources but they’re in kind of a “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” situation

  21. I live at the border. I travel back and forth regularily for work. The “voluntary border control” has no right to stop you. Most of them know that. Some don’t. I have not been stopped once. Most of it is xenophobic propaganda driven “heroism”. In the unlikely case that you’re being halted by civilians, my advice is: Don’t stop, don’t open your door or window. If they don’t let you through, close the doors and call the police.

  22. I think they should start arresting the citizen border patrol freaks. Now they even wear Police vests, thats literally illegal
