Heard the fox scrabbling around out front at 3am which is pretty standard. It wouldn't be the first time they've chosen to disembowel someone's takeaway leavings on our front drive.

Not this time. What the fuck?!

Labels say: Dubia Cockroaches Large Prepack and Morio Prepack (Not native to the UK. Do not release into the wild.)

One package was empty.
The other two were full of dead bugs.

My husband collected it all. Double-bagged and binned it.

I'm skeeved out and didn't even touch it.

If I knew a neighbour who keeps exotic reptiles, I would go and give them a hard slap upside the head. I don't so, I'm spreading my heebie-jeebies to CasualUK instead.

  1. I once came home to find a lady doing a poo in my front garden. Well, I say “lady” but that’s being pretty generous.

  2. Common pet reptile feeder bugs. Most likely bugs have been eaten by someone’s pet.

But if the dubia get out they shouldn’t survive our winter. They’re from tropics. Being summer may give them time but i wouldn’t worry about an infestation.

The morio worms are beetle larvae similar to mealworms but bigger.. Not sure on their survivability.

  3. A neighbour threw a large “ornamental” wooden spoon with the inscription, “World’s Best Wife Beater” on the handle into my garden once. I never found which of the couple threw it.

  4. I’m slow, I thought this was another Dubai chocolate flavour

  5. I feed my tarantulas Dubia roaches. Someone close by could have spiders and threw out the empty packages. I transfer my dubias to their own enclosure and chuck out the packages.

  6. When it’s windy I always like to try guess which item that blows into my garden has come from which neighbour

  7. I wonder if someone had ordered them but the parcel was stolen. The thief opened up expecting something to sell on but not creepy crawlies. At least whoever left it there didn’t open the boxes.

  8. Well, at least you’ll never be lonely again. You’ve always got friends with a cockroach infestation.

  9. Defo got a neighbour with a big fat chunky bearded dragon.

  10. Dubai Cockroaches? Aren’t they trendy at the moment?

  11. This made me laugh, I’m sorry. And also reminded me of when I was collecting brambles one November. A lady asked if I was doing it to make Christmas Wreaths and I informed her no, I was collecting it for food for my pet leaf insects.

  12. oh for fuck sake who lets Dubia’s go to waste? they’re insanely nutritious for my pet frog

  13. Why are you slapping people for foxes digging in their bins? It’s OK to throw the bugs away if they are dead, they can’t reproduce and create an invasive species issue if they are dead, and reptiles and amphibians usually don’t recognise they are food if they aren’t moving so you can’t feed them. What else do you suggest people do with that if not throw it away? What do you do with expired pet food that can’t be eaten?

  14. Dubia roaches are absolutely useless and can barely be compared to the “real” ones. I’ve fed them to my gecko before and they sit on a tray with a 1 inch high lip and can’t even climb out of it

  15. >neighbour who keeps exotic reptiles

That or a tradesman who has been messed around by customer/not paid

  16. Someone got lizards or spiders they feed those. I get the cricket ones all the time. Used to also get the roaches.

They sell them in pretty much all pet shops.

  17. The other day someone had left an open tin of cat food IN the bus shelter. First thing in the morning.

  18. That’s disgusting. £4.75. I only charge £2.99 for the exact same thing.

  19. These are common feeders for a bearded dragon or similar reptiles.
