These pointed rubber bullet were used extensively during 'The Troubles' in Northern Ireland up until the mid 1970s, when they were changed for cylindrical pvc plastic baton rounds due to the severity of injuries (and deaths) being caused

I got hit on the back of the leg by one of these things when I was 10, I was walking back from the shop, obviously I wasn’t the intended target, but they’re completely indiscriminate and uncontrollable when fired.
Many fatalities.
The Middle is what I know as a teen in the late 90s after riots
Weird bored American shit posting?
I had the pleasure of stopping some baton rounds during some training exercises where I played the role of a “civilian agitator”.
I may have used the phrase, “Gosh, that stings”.
No such thing as non lethal only less lethal, well known by those who bothered to do any sort of research, the original riot rounds weren’t to be shot AT people but into the ground and bounced into a crowd to minimise injuries and provide ample chance for people to survive.
My mum had one of these in her draw when she was younger
“Shure who gives a fuck” – some Ruc man
The severity of injuries was as a result of them being fired directly rather than ricocheted off the ground as they were meant to be fired. I imagine firing batteries from the same guns wasn’t any safer.
If any of us are still about in 2064, we might get to see the state papers on the death of Julie Livingstone as a result of being hit by one of the “safer” pvc bullets in 1981. Obviously there must be a good reason to seal them for 83 years as she was a 14 year old girl and no prosecution was ever directed against her killers.
& then converted, sold & used to sex toys in the 00’s eh
A family member had a collection of these- including one that broke his friend’s leg.

I was talking to an ex para who (very apologetic) said they used to put d size batteries from their torches into them on top of the round. It was common apparently. Tbh. That’s a very shite thing to do. He was there as part of the peace 2 consultation. I hope he lived with that fact the rest of his days.
I remember those.
