I presume the university will be considering revoking degrees over this. Then we’ll no doubt get people complaining they can’t get a job or whatever after pulling these stunts as if it wasn’t totally predictable.
Don’t know how anyone can watch the recent documentary about what’s happening to healthcare staff in Gaza and not be absolutely utterly and bitterly appalled
Israel state sponsored genocide and ethnic cleansing needs to stop. The more the injustice can be highlighted, the better
I graduated from Edinburgh last year, a few people carried Palestinian flags, whatever, but then the girl walking out in front of me was shouting and refusing to leave the stage for a few minutes. There were also people in the audience who stood up and shouted protests during one of speeches by university officials
I hold the same position politically, I just question what the actual effectiveness of that was. How many civilian lives were saved or improved because you made a fuss for 2 minutes at an event, inspiring more eye rolls from the audience (and quite a few boos) than anything? I feel like some people on the left feel the need to be seen to be doing Something, regardless of if it actually helps or not
But maybe I’m just bitter because it took me 7 years to graduate and my 10 seconds on the stage, and the few extra minutes stuck where all the glaring eyes were directed uncomfortably close to me, were made extremely awkward and embarassing due to the dramatics of the person in front. That said my friends found it funny, nothing about graduating had been smooth so far, why should I be able to pick up the piece of paper without drama 😂
