Megan Kuns, a Hull Prairie Intermediate School social studies teacher, participated in an educational trip to Japan through an Ohio State University program.
PERRYSBURG, Ohio — A Perrysburg Schools teacher is ready to share with her students the lessons she learned during an educational experience in Japan this summer.
Hull Prairie Intermediate School social studies teacher Megan Kuns traveled to Japan as part of the 2025 Tokaido, Origami, Temples and Shrines (TOTS) program this summer. Several organizations through The Ohio State University, like the National Consortium for Teaching About Asia, the Freeman Foundation and the Center for East Asian Studies, supported Kuns’ 10-day trip.
According to a press release, Kuns, along with other educators across the U.S., visited sites and participated in collaborative learning activities to learn more about Japan’s history, culture and religion. As part of the trip, Kuns toured Kyoto temples and shrines, visited a school and Peace Park in Hiroshima and stayed overnight at a Buddhist monastery in Koyasan. On the final day, Kuns explored the traditional and modern Japanese experiences in Tokyo.

Each participant had the opportunity to research a topic of their choice connected to the trip’s itinerary. Kuns narrowed her focus to Buddhist temples, allowing her to explore the Daishoin Temple on Miyajima Island. Buddhist temples tie into the Hull Prairie Intermediate School’s sixth grade social studies curriculum.
Perrysburg Schools said they are proud of Kuns for representing the school district on a “global stage.” Kuns’ experience in Japan will travel with her into the classroom when students return to school in the fall.
