  1. SS: Japan has decided to sell used destroyers to Phillipines, a first in Japan’s history, to assist the Phillipines against an aggressive China.

This is seen as the first step to set up a quasi alliance to deter China.

As per British reports, China has nearly 102 ships while Phillipines currently has only 2 frigates. These destroyers by Japan have a displacement weight of 2000 tons and are the smallest in Japanese fleet, so small that Japan used them as patrol ships.

While the deal itself wouldn’t improve Phillipines position, considering the various partnerships that Japan has lined up to build next generation submarines, fighter jets and warships; it’s safe to say that in the coming future Japan will be the biggest military ally of the US in the Pacific Ocean.
