The hotel scene in greater Los Angeles reflects the diversity of the city itself, where travelers can find every kind of property, from those that have starred in so many movies they’ve reached icon status to coastal, low-key spots that feel a million miles from Hollywood (plus everything in between). That doesn’t mean choosing a hotel in America’s second largest city is an easy task—with so many options here, readers are spoiled for choice.
How Voting Works
Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Nearly 180,000 T+L readers completed the 2025 survey. A total of more than 657,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the criteria below:
For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.

What Readers Loved
Readers appreciated the classic hotels in L.A. that have maintained their standards for decades. Case in point: the Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel (No. 8), which opened in 1928 and has been the setting for such films as “Clueless” and “Pretty Woman.” One local states that “when family visits, this is the hotel I recommend, and it always pleases.” Another reader notes the property has the “best concierge in the business.”
Relative newcomers and reinventions were also popular with readers this year, including the Fairmont Century Plaza (No. 13), which debuted a five-year, $2.5 billion renovation in 2021; and the Santa Monica Proper (No. 10), a sleek, Kelly Wearstler-designed addition to the beach city that also acts as a hangout for locals. Nearby, Hotel Casa del Mar (No. 3) has more of a resort atmosphere, thanks to its location right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. One reader says that “I will always choose this place for an L.A. staycation. I love the restaurant here and the views of the Santa Monica Pier. Hotel Casa Del Mar feels so quintessentially ‘L.A.’ while also providing a private alcove to enjoy the finer things in life.”

L’Ermitage Beverly Hills
“L’Ermitage Beverly Hills is a hidden gem in Los Angeles,” says one reader, describing the 116-room hotel that was absent from the list last year, but made a roaring comeback with readers this year. Tucked discreetly on a residential street in one of L.A.’s most desirable neighborhoods, one reader described it as “the best hotel in the area.” Another reader noted that “the staff are very friendly and ensure you are treated like a queen. The rooftop is absolutely stunning with the best views.” They went on to describe the “perfect” location in Beverly Hills, where “you can walk to Rodeo Drive, but you are not surrounded by the crowds.”
