Russia becomes first country to recognise Taliban govt in Afghanistan • FRANCE 24 English

A photo signaling Russia’s decision to formally recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan. While the move has sparked anger from opponents of the Taliban, Kbal has held the decision as a historic step. First of all, we welcome the step by the Russian Federation to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and this brave decision taken by the Russian Federation will be an example for others. The move follows a series of actions which Moscow has taken to normalize relations with the Taliban authorities. Last year it called them allies in the fight against terrorism and in April this year it removed the Taliban from a list of terrorist organizations. Russia was also the first to open a business representative office in Kbell shortly after the Taliban takeover in 2021, announcing plans to turn Afghanistan into a transit hub for gas sent to Southeast Asia. The Russian foreign ministry, which sees Afghanistan as a potential commercial and economic partner, released a statement on its plans in the region. We see considerable prospects for interaction in trade and the economy with a focus on projects in energy, transport, agriculture, and infrastructure. We will continue to assist Kabul in strengthening regional security and fighting terrorist threats and drug crime. China, an ally of Afghanistan. Welcome to the news. The Chinese side supports the international community in strengthening engagement and communication with Afghanistan’s interim government, encouraging it to actively respond to the concerns of the international community and jointly help Afghanistan achieve reconstruction and development. Other states like the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan have also accepted Taliban envoys as ambassadors, but no country has officially recognized them as Afghanistan’s lawful government. Since their takeover of Afghanistan after American forces pulled out in 2021, the Taliban authorities have introduced a strict Islamic regime in the country with restrictions on women and girls excluding them from education and life in public.

Afghanistan’s government said on Thursday that Russia had become the first country to officially recognise its rule, calling it a “brave decision”. The Taliban swept back to power in 2021 after ousting the foreign-backed government and have imposed an austere version of Islamic law.

  1. They are the leaders of the country, that’s the reality on the ground in Afghanistan. I don’t see the issue.

  2. If the people voted for this government then the rest world should also realise that their government was also elected via the people’s vote. It’s really that simple. If the people voted for you then it means they want you to represent them.

  3. When russia was fighting taliban west didn't like it

They prefered turning south asia into battlefield over letting Najibullah rule DRA

  4. Russia recognises Taliban,America recognising ISIS. Hypocrisy of politicians unlimited. When not in your favour oh terrorists, when in your favour not terrorists! Terrorists are terrorists. Extremists of all religions are extremists.

  5. Very lovely news. Great to see Afghanistan finally beginning to prosper after decades of corruption and violence 🇬🇧❤️🏳️

  6. Of course Russia would, as it their Modus Operandi to create as much chaos, murder and mayhem from around the World… Russia is famous for turmoil and social upheaval sowing the seeds of distrust, disinformation and insurrection causes.😢😮😢…

  7. Thank you, Russia, for being the first to open your consulate and for recognizing the reality of what Afghanistan has been left with. We know the West left Afghanistan in ruins that may seem beyond repair. Sadly, much of the so-called Muslim world still waits for approval from their Western masters before they recognize Afghanistan themselves.
Just imagine — if the US recognized Afghanistan, the rest of the Muslim world would follow immediately.
