While Australia’s institutional investors chase venture capital opportunities overseas, younger Australians are hungry for meaningful domestic investments beyond the big four banks and mining giants.
Tim Baker’s Boutique Capital has quietly become the infrastructure backbone serving this disconnect, working with the majority of emerging venture capital funds outside established giants like Blackbird, Airtree and Square Peg Capital.
It has worked with many of Australia’s newer VCs including Archangel, Antler, Athletic Ventures, Black Nova, Co Ventures, Purpose Ventures, Tractor Ventures and Side Stage Ventures.
Baker describes his firm as “a fund incubator” – not just providing back-office services but actively nurturing new managers through their early stages. It’s a “one-stop shop” – handling operations, compliance and accounting that would traditionally require managers to coordinate between multiple service providers.
