According to the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy, the European Union must urgently adopt the 18th package of sanctions that would be painful for the aggressor’s economy and restrict its ability to continue the aggression.

The foreign ministers also discussed the need of military, financial and political support for Ukraine.

Budrys said that continued and effective assistance is vital for Ukraine to defend itself and continue defending Europe’s security. He said it was crucial for all European countries to realise Ukraine’s importance for the security on the continent and to allocate sufficient resources for that.

Budrys notes that the outcome of Russia’s war in Ukraine will determine the architecture of European security for decades to come. According to him, the actions of European countries may decide if they can help Ukraine overcome Russia’s bloody aggression or allow it to spread further. The minister says that Europe’s inability to grant Ukraine stable continued support would be a clear sign to Putin that Europe is no longer united and can be divided.

In addition, Lithuanian and Dutch foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations, the results of the NATO Summit in The Hague at the end of June and EU enlargement.
