JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Bur Oak Land Trust in Johnson County has reported its AmeriCorps program is back, after its funding was cut by the Trump Administration earlier this year.
In April, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cancelled $400 million in AmeriCorps grants, gutting programs across the country.
Bur Oak lost its nine Americorps members, who had been contracted through August.
The conservation group joined a national lawsuit, and on Monday a Maryland judge ruled the cuts were not authorized and would lead to irreparable harm.
Bur Oak said the ruling means all its former members will get the pay they are owed.
However, funding for future programs is still up in the air.
