Cymru fans ahead of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Group D Match between Wales and Netherlands at Allmend Stadion
History has been made over the last week after Cymru made their major tournament debut and scored their first goal at EURO 2025.
There was a crowd of 14,147 in attendance at the Allmend Stadion in Lucerne on Saturday, which witnessed Cymru on the major stage for the first time as they faced the Netherlands. It was an emotional day for players, staff and supporters alike who recognised the journey the national team has gone on to make it on the big stage, lining up against one of the leading teams in Women’s football.
To celebrate the occasion, thousands of Cymru and Netherlands supporters marched through the city centre, with 8,000 embarking on the 2.5km walk along the streets of the city, making it the biggest fan walk in Women’s EURO history. Despite the result, the day was one that will long be celebrated by those who follow the Welsh national team who earned plaudits for how vocal they were in their support for the players.
At the full-time whistle, national team head coach Rhian Wilkinson along with the players went over to the travelling Red Wall and showed their gratitude to those who made the trip to Central Europe.
Several days later, Cymru and the Red Wall moved across Switzerland from Lucerne to St. Gallen for their next group stage match against France. Les Bleus went in front through Clara Matteo, but five minutes later history was made as Jess Fishlock netted Cymru’s equaliser. It was Cymru’s first goal at a major tournament.
Unfortunately, France restored their lead through Kadidiatou Diani, before Amel Majri and Grace Geyoro added further goals in a win for France. Despite the defeat, Cymru supporters were once again lauded for the atmosphere they created, and the players made sure to show their appreciation to the travelling contingent.
