Individuals, SMEs and startups have been offered up to €50,000 to propose innovative digital solutions to help manage Maltese traffic.
The expression of interest, announced by the Transport Ministry on Saturday, is open to submissions from anyone who believes they have an idea that could significantly improve the situation on local roads.
Ideas can range from traffic management systems to digital solutions to help connect people to vacant parking spots.
Individuals who submit ideas can receive grants of up to €20,000 while startups, SMEs and other companies are eligible for grants of up to €50,000.
Apart from grants, successful applicants will receive mentoring, access to official data and infrastructure and help to bring their ideas to fruition.
Proposals can be submitted until September 30 and more information is available online.
Transport Minister Chris Bonett urged people to take part in the initiative.
“The government is willing to invest in digital projects to improve road commuting nationwide,” he said.
Transport Malta CEO Kurt Farrugia echoed that.
“We are opening our doors to any opportunities that might improve Malta’s mobility. Transport Malta is committed to providing a real platform to those with innovative ideas,” Farrugia said.
The expression of interest was announced during a visit the minister paid to World Pro Racing, which is using renders of local roads and sites on various advanced simulators.
