The visit of Igor Dodon, the Chairman of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PRSM), to Belarus and his meeting with President Aleksandr Lukashenko are important from the point of view of restoring the strategic dialogue between Belarus and Moldova. Igor Dodon expressed this view in an interview with reporters following his today’s meeting with the Belarusian leader.
The Moldovan politician drew attention to the fact that bilateral trade-economic ties have suffered as a result of the present Moldovan government’s decision to hold no talks with Russia or Belarus, “We think that this is wrong. We want to be friends with Belarus, Belarusians are our brothers, so today’s visit to Minsk is crucial to our two-way relationship. The meeting with Aleksandr Grigorievich is important from the point of view of restoring our strategic dialogue. Unfortunately, our trade turnover has dropped over the past few years. I have no doubt that we will soon restore all of this. In barely two and a half months, Moldova will hold parliamentary elections. Moldova is a parliamentary country, meaning that the parliament and the government have the main powers and opportunities to influence decisions. And we have faith that things will improve and we will return our dialogue to the level that our citizens want.”
