Getting named in the press for being sacked as a teacher is rough, getting named in the press because your ex boyfriend is a child sex offender is proper rough. She should have applied for anonymity and obviously disclosed her relationship at the time so the school could have made a safeguarding decision about her.
I realise this thread is gonna be full of the usual ‘strap ’em to a rocket and fire ’em into the Sun!’ righteous anti-pedo ire, but I agree with the teacher. On what grounds should she be terminated for her partner’s transgressions? We’re supposed to have a justice system in which one is not punished for the crimes of another. Imagine if her partner had never disclosed it to her. Does she still get fired just for regularly being in the same vicinity as a pedophile? If that’s the system we want then basically all of Parliament is fired.
That also raises another point; Many many bishops, MPs, Lords, members of the monarchy, members of the police, high ranking civil servants, senior executives, etc. etc. have knowingly been in the regular company of known pedophiles and child assaulters and yet they’re not made to pay for the sins of their fraternisations.
I think once it got out the school really had no choice because anything to do with pedophilia excites the arson and pitchforks lizard brains of a certain segment of the population, and the school likely didn’t want to spend the next forever cleaning graffiti and smeared dogshit off the walls, but at the same time it all seems very fishy and kind of a weak position to hold.
The relationship was over and she is entitled to her privacy. He’s in prison and she acknowledges he is an ongoing risk so isn’t minimising his dangerousness. I think this decision is a bit troublesome to say the least. People are entitled to move on
He was arrested in 2018. She taught there from 2019. Her relationship ended in 2020 and she was reported in 2021.
So for a year she was in a relationship with a child sex offender who was in prison while she was teaching in a school. The kids weren’t in direct danger from him but potential second hand danger from him potentially coercing her.
Idk, I can see both sides, she was teaching whilst being in a relationship with him, which must be against the rules so I can understand them firing her but it seems a bit much to name and shame her.
