Hello! My family and I (+2 small kids) are flying into Billund this next week to visit Legoland and we will stay in and fly out of CPH after that. We were originally going to ask the hotel how to get to CPH when we get there but are now panicking at the thought that it will be more expensive or non-purchasable.

Originally, I thought there was a train from Vejle that can take us straight to København but it looks like there might be some construction (per dsb.dk and google maps)? We will spend the day at Lego House and travel to CPH in the evening. Does this mean we will need to transfer three times over a four hour span? Since we are traveling with 2 small kids and all our luggage, we want to have as few transfers as possible, especially if there's a chance a transfer might be missed.

What are other options for getting to CPH (drive, taxi, boat) and how do the modes of travel compare? How does the train system compare traveling in the evening (vs the day)? Any other tips for our trip?? Thank you so much!

  1. If you are in Billund then why not just take a plane?

  2. Google maps says flixbus goes directly, depending on when you’re going.

  3. I’d rule out taking the train, mainly because not all of the replacement busses can handle huge suitcases

  4. Flixbus has one or two direct Daily departures which is more convienient when there is Engineering works on the railroad. But the bus is in the afternoon, which I guess must be preferable to evening when you are travelling with small children

  5. De bad mig om at udfylde et spørgeskema foran togbus “stationen” i dag. Jeg skrev en masse træls kommentarer.

  6. Rent a car, might cost more but less hassle (though renting a car in Denmark is still a complicated process)

  7. Possibly GoMore but that’s more spontaneous and it doesn’t seem like a common route. Perhaps it could get you most of the way, if for example you’re looking for an Aarhus to CPH ride and can make arrangements with the driver to get picked up on the way.

  8. If you haven’t booked your accommodation in CPH yet, you could detour via Aarhus (Billund to Aarhus by direct bus 912X), stay the night there, and take the direct coach to Copenhagen which brings you onto the catamaran to Sjællands Odde (Kombardo I think is the name nowadays)

  9. You could consider getting a taxi from Legoland to Vejle as that will be faster and a bit less hassle than the bus.

Depending on what day this is I can offer to drive you from Korsør to your final destination in Copenhagen at no cost as I have to pick up something at a friends place in Copenhagen anyways and it doesn’t matter much which day or time it is. Then you don’t have to take the bus from Korsør to Slagelse or change in Slagelse. Only caveat is that all of the luggage would have to fit in a Tesla Model 3.

  10. Hvorfor er det lagt i den største ferieperiode på hele året? Det er helt skudt af..

  11. Take the bus/train to sønderborg and fly over to CPH in 45 min 🙂

  12. If you must take the train. Find someone on it who is also going to Copenhagen. It will probably be around 50 percent of the passengers easily. Then ask if you can tag along. Most people are friendly. Also be sure to make seat reservations. The trans can be crowed during summer.

  13. Honestly, rent a car at Sixt in Billund Airport.
1600dkk for the car, add 250 for the bridge and 300 for fuel, and you can drive comfortably to CPH Airport with no stress, and just hand in the car to Sixt there.

  14. Billund native here. Are you planning on doing LEGOLAND and LEGO House on the same day?

That will ruin both experiences, when you also have transport to catch afterwards, as you will need to rush through both. In my opinion you would need 1 full day at LEGOLAND and 1/2 day at LEGO House.

In case you cant prolong, I would stick to LEGO House and take Flixbus/flight in the afternoon. There is always an option to visit other LEGOLAND parks around the world (dont know where you are from), but LEGO House is only located in Billund.

    Enjoy your trip!

  15. As others have said, I would suggest taking a look at Flixbus or GoMore (either car rentals or rides).

Even under normal circumstances, trains in Denmark generally aren’t worth the high ticket prices. And public buses aren’t even really part of the conversation for longer trips. It’s such a shame, but that’s just the way it is.

  16. The trains are messed up right now. I just spent more than 3 hours going from Odense to CPH.

  17. Take the bus to Aarhus and then take the Kombardo from Aarhus to CPH. It’s a bus + ferry, which is enjoyable and child friendly. It’ll take you directly to CPH.

The trip will be like this:

Bus from Billund to Aarhus. Perhaps spend a day in Aarhus.

Then you go from Aarhus to CPH with Kombardo:

You get on the bus in Aarhus, and then the bus goes onto the ferry in Aarhus (probably a 10 minute bus ride).

Then you’re on the ferry for an hour and 15 minutes, which is super nice.

Then after that you get back onto the bus for about 1,5 hours and then you’re in CPH.
