Today I learned that Waterloo is actually North of Victoria! What other geographical surprises does London hold?

  1. i dont know why anyone would ever think victoria was more north than waterloo?

  2. I’m pretty sure Heathrow would be considered to London’s ‘main airport’

  3. Is the centre of london still considered to be Charring Cross ?

  4. stratford is so much further east than people realise! the distance between stratford station and buckingham palace is the exact same distance as buckingham palace to kew gardens i believe.

  5. Queensway on the central line and Bayswater on the Circle/District lines are only 200m apart.
They are slightly closer together than Bow Rd & Bow Church and Euston & Euston Sq, yesterday those two are both out of station interchanges

  6. There was a test in the Knowledge where they asked you about going a certain route, and arriving at the south end of the river side of Westminster bridge. They then asked what direction you were facing? Answer was West

  7. If we’re talking about Tube lines, Central line after Stratford goes up north.

  8. *Luton* and *Stansted* and *Southend* are not actually London airports. They are piggy backing on the city’s name to be considered by passengers and not be dismissed as an option.

And I can guarantee you LHR is the main airport of the city. The taxes on them ticket explains it all

  9. There isn’t an E19 postcode. It used to go up to E18 for chingford, the. When they redeveloped the back of Stratford for the Olympics and the Westfield shopping area, they gave the area the E20 postcode so it matched with the previously fictional E2 Walford postcode in EastEnders (oh and Walford East tube station takes the place of Bromley By Bow on EastEnders tube maps.)

  10. For the longest time I assumed Victoria was further east as it’s there the Brighton trains come in and then go city Thames link etc

Whereas Waterloo is Staines/windsor/Guildford further west

Do the lines cross over somewhere?

  11. On certain rail lines you can get to Waterloo in either direction

  12. I remember realising Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are technically two different parks. Not just one big Hyde Park

  13. Always found it funny that driving south over Richmond bridge takes from you from the chunk of land that is south of the river, to the chunk of land that is (overall) north of the river.

  14. Yo momma so fat she got her own postcode, respectfully.

  15. That’s not a geographical surprise. It’s just that you didn’t know and most likely always went by the underground map.

  16. The Tube map really messed up my perception of where everything is.

  17. When I was young, I used to think the City of London referred to Central London. But it actually refers to the Square Mile, the financial district. It even has its own police force (the City of London Police) and its own Lord Mayor, not to be confused with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

  18. Montreal is way south of Paris. Couldn’t compute that.

  19. According to Arsenal fans, Woolwich is part of Islington.

  20. Not only is the highest point in London (Westerham Heights, 245 m) taller than the highest point in all of Denmark (171 m) but 26 buildings in London are also taller than the entire country of Denmark.
