Wondering if Prince William is on board with the secret “peace summit” between King Charles and Prince Harry’s royal aides? Apparently…not so much. The Daily Beast reports that the Prince of Wales’ team was “notably absent” from the meetings, and a anonymous “longtime friend” of the royal says forgiveness isn’t on the table for him.
“William will never, ever forgive Harry for what he has done,” the insider says. “Charles is the king; he can do what he likes. But make no mistake: William believes with every fiber of his being that giving Harry and Meghan back any royal imprimatur is a huge mistake.”
The outlet also notes that “William reading about the meeting in Sunday’s papers will not go down well,” which implies that his team wasn’t even invited.
In case you missed news of the meeting, it went down at a private members club in London close to King Charles’ residence, and involved His Majesty’s communications secretary and Prince Harry’s chief communications officer and head of PR.
A source told the Daily Mail that “There’s a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.” They added that the meeting is just “first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction. Everyone just wants to move on and move forward now. It was finally the right time for the two sides to talk.”
