Recently booked a room at Ross Park Hotel up in Kells near Ballymena. Got the email confirmation and this was included? I'm sorry but that is very weird. From a drink point of view, I can understand more but food? Not being able to bring outside food into a hotel room? That is strange beyond belief. Stayed in accommodation all over the world and never seen this before.

I’m sorry, but I can’t even understand the drink part. If you’re having a party, sure, don’t make noise. But don’t sit at the end of the day having a glass of wine and packet of crisps? Honestly?!
In all the hotels I’ve stayed at, ever, I have heard no such thing. If they’ve got issues with individuals, then they as a business need to pay enough staff correctly to deal with those issues, and work out what makes them different to any other hotel on the planet.
So say your diabetic, no food in the bed room? Why the feck would you pay these rates and not be able to use the room…
This was the same at the slieve Donard about 10 years ago. All my aunts had their vodka in glass ballygowan water bottles which they had made sure were sold by the hotel bar because they rang to check
How are they gonna enforce that or even know? Bag search at check in? Cameras in the room? What a stupid thing to do by the hotel.
How could you even agree to that anyway if they won’t tell you how much the surcharge will be? I can imagine some angry rows at the front desk if they stick some random charge on a bill.
Normally you find it’s wedding venues etc that do this for the obvious reasons.
How would they even know what you brought into the room?
I mean, assuming *Billy and Billina* don’t go into their room spick and span and come out three sheets to the wind with a Greggs steak bake smeared down their chests, how would the hotel even know?
Maybe they have a stop a search at the concierge? 🧐 or do they put your door in and raid your room at 6am to catch you unawares..
I’ve seen it before in a bnb in wexford I stayed in. Ridiculous. Never stayed there again.
Was this in the T&C’s, or notified to you in any way prior to purchase?
I have never heard of a hotel doing this, and I’ve stayed in 100s. You should be able to order takeaway food to your hotel!
You could email them and ask to explain themselves:
– what if you were diabetic?
– what if you get thirsty at 3am?
– what if you’re on a specific eating plan (keto/low carb/intermitting fasting or some other nonsense)?
– what if you’re travelling somewhere else afterwards and you need to eat dinner at 4.30am to become accustomed to the new time zone (you’re a professional athlete, so it’s essential)?
– if they are supplying food and drink 24 hours a day, is the menu varied enough to ensure your microbiome is not affected?
– you take vitamins and some food supplements, such as a protein shake. Do they consider those acceptable as non-food items? If not, why not, and how are they making the definition?
If you do something like this, let us know what their response is.
I need to feed my hookers after the orgy!
That’s a bit of a strange one. Have heard of not bringing in outside food to a restaurant or bar, but not the room.
