What are those tiny little airports scattered across the country?

  1. Usually farmer’s airports (a little too strong word for that as they are actually called “airstrips”). They use them to spray pesticides on their crops most of the times.

  2. Where our strategic bombers take off, coz we ain’t got no carriers by sea.

  3. Agricultural strips used to service the fields around to spray them with stuff. A communists heritage. In my youth we went there to smoke weed and learn to drive. Some were racing their tuned ladas. Some were having sex. Last time I checked the entrance from the main road was blocked I guess to prevent these kind of gatherings

  4. We don’t have money and these are the best airports we can make

  5. Those are for agricultural aviation and/or hobby pilots and skydiving clubs. The double use during the Warsaw Pact was for redundant military take-off locations for fighter jets.
Some even had revetment walls for the jets. Those are earthwork walls that would surround the parked jet on three sides, protecting them from shrapnel and nearby hits. It was also easier to cover the jets with camo nets that way.

Those are more like airfields or airstrips. I wouldn’t call them airports.
