WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Nocona High School Career and Technology Center was one of several new additions passed in Nocona ISD’s bond in 2023. This facility will feature four new classrooms, a new agriculture shop and eliminates the need for students to cross the highway to get to other classes. Rob Norman, a multimedia teacher, said he has been waiting eight years for this overdue expansion.
“And just I knew I outgrew it very, very early. I did not think in my career. It’s my 20th year, I just finished teaching total and I did not think I would see a new facility in my lifetime,” Norman said.
Norman also added that having a dedicated room will save him time, leading to extended education for students.
“My classes are about 48 to 50 minutes depending on the school year, and so you want to get as much bang for your buck in the amount of time. If you’re spending 20 to 30 minutes everyday setting up and breaking down, you’re only getting 20 minutes of actual recording time or curriculum time. However, you want to point that out. And so setting up and breakdown is not ideal for that. And so you really need a dedicated space for that,” Norman said.
Despite this, Norman’s students have pushed through these limitations and garnered themselves a total of four state titles between film and animation. He believes the new classroom should give the perennial state contenders an even better chance.
The key to really doing so well at state is our foundation and so the more I can get done, the more time I save, the more things we can get through and those beginner classes allows me to to not have to do those at the advanced level for them to already be out there making films. I really I feel like I’m going to gain probably an extra month of the school year.
Norman gave advice for students taking their first steps into one of several multimedia courses offered at Nocona High School.
“You know, have an open mind. Be prepared to work hard, ask questions. And bring your creativity. You know, like a lot of the best projects we’ve done, a lot of these movies that we make, they’re not from my brain. They’re from student brains. And they’re a little weird. But like, they win,” Norman added.
Nocona High School’s Career and Technology Center is scheduled to be ready for the 2026-27 school year.
