Submission statement: The US, France, Germany, and the UK agreed to set an end of August deadline for a nuclear deal with Iran, warning that if no agreement is reached, they will trigger the “Snapback” of UN sanctions before October.
This move is meant to pressure Tehran before the snapback provision expires and before Russia assumes the UN Security Council presidency.
Iran rejects the legality of snapback and has threatened to leave the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Europeans are preparing to offer Iran a chance to avoid sanctions by restoring nuclear transparency, while the US, backed by Israel, sees snapback as crucial leverage for negotiations.
They’ve been under sanctions longer than I’ve been alive, doesn’t seem to have done anybody any good. They also haven’t abided by any non proliferation treaties they’ve actually signed. At what point are we just going to declare the entire regime untrustworthy?
Damn if only we already had a deal
Just a “legal” cover to provide cause and pretext for round two in the military campaign
Whatever happened to “we’ll get a deal by next week but we don’t really need it”?
Didn’t Trump randomly just dip out of the prior deal just to slap them with sanctions? Why would they trust him this time?
