This is why I’m not worried about Trump returning the U.S. to the 1930s.  The rest of the world is going to clean our clocks for the next four years, and the next president will be stuck with a pretty stark choice.  At some point American leadership won’t be able to get spare parts for our antiquated machines and have to be dragged back into modernity.

  2. Kairo has just about 80% sunshine during daylight hours year round. The amount of batteries you need to keep such a system stable/reliable is pretty small.

    This is pretty much the situation throughout most of the African continent. They can potentially leapfrog everyone else using the cheapest form of energy available (solar) with a comparatively small investment in storage. This would give them a base of ultra-cheap energy for their industry.

    It’s just win-win for them if they grasp the opportunity quickly (Luckily solar and storage are the fastest things to deploy in the energy sector).

  3. The old producers WANT blackouts – it gives them power and control.
