COLUMBIA — One of seven nationwide nuclear summits took place at the Missouri Theatre on Thursday.
“The purpose of the event is really to bring the concept of nuclear power back into discussion as something that should be in the mix, essentially, for power options going forward,” said Kurt Shaefer, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
The summit, hosted by the Department of Natural Resources, featured 19 speakers, including Gov. Mike Kehoe and UM System President Mun Choi.
Speakers shared their support for Missouri’s nuclear plan throughout the summit.
“We have one of the most diverse economies in the country,” said Subash Alias, CEO of Missouri Partnership. “This very steady economic climate is what companies are looking for. When they put $1 billion in the ground, they are looking for a stable environment to do that.”
