Why the Jeffrey Epstein case is an obsession for the MAGA world • FRANCE 24 English

Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier and child sex offender whose death launched a massive conspiracy theory. In August 2019, Epstein was found dead while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking crimes. Epstein was found hanged in his locked cell within the prison’s secure special housing unit. The New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Epstein died by suicide. But the saga did not die with Epstein. You see, he was friends with many other rich, powerful people, including Britain’s Prince Andrew and at one point, Donald Trump. Conspiracy theories accusing the government of covering up the hedge fund manager’s crimes have thrived. Conservative commentators and MAGA politicians have insisted Epstein was murdered and that there is a so-called client list that implicates politicians, celebrities, and billionaires in child sex abuse. The whole idea that there is this list of very influential people and a lot of these MAGA people believe that they are a lot of Democrats. Uh this is part of what they believe is the cover up. Some of them are worried why would Donald Trump do this? Is he actually on the list? and why is he being involved in this cover up and telling people to move on? Trump himself stoked Epstein conspiracy theories and during the 2024 presidential campaign pledged to release files related to Epstein’s crimes and contacts. So when Trump took office, supporters believed the Epstein files would be released and they would be proven right. Instead, the lack of evidence being revealed to support their beliefs has infuriated the president’s base, and Trump himself wants the conspiracy to go away. And are people still talking about this guy, this creep? That is unbelievable. But after years of fanning the flames, the Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy is not going away that easily. What was once held up by the MAGA world as an example of a corrupt justice department is now Donald Trump’s problem. And calls for Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all the files or resign are growing.

    I’m not American but I’m also obsessed though I have 0 hope an American president will ever realease the information to the public, if it’s ever going to be realesed it’s going to be through illegal means.

  8. You can't have a human be in the news as much as Epstein, who was trumps BFF for decades, with world wide news coverage, and just go NOPE, NOTHING TO SEE. GOOD BYE.

  9. If the opposition is already, and yet again, trying to gaslight you that this is just a MAGA in-fighting episode (an 'obsession'), and not another glimpse into the structure of the ruling class, something is then terribly wrong across the board

  12. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but Pam Bondi said she had the list on her desk. And now Trump said there is no list, and actually stopped Bondi from answering a journalists question about the list. I think this is a genuine point that needs answering, as someone is lying.

  14. Of course Donald Trump is on Epstein's client list, and probably on video too. You know who else is sure to be on the list? Bill Clinton. Not a doubt in my mind.

  15. Who isn't on the list, I wonder? Trump was introduced to Melania via Epstein. Flight records show Trump's been on Epsteins plane. Clinton, Trump, probably members of the Supreme Court, members of Congress, we all know the government is controlled by the wealthy, this is how they keep absolutely allegiance and authority, Epstein had dirt on probably almost everyone. Id be interested to know who isn't in the files, who hasn't taken money from big donors? Those are the people we want in office, regardless of party loyalty.
