Ofer Yannay, president of Hapoel Tel Aviv, recently spoke about the club’s ongoing recruitment efforts as they prepare for their debut EuroLeague season.
Following the high-profile signing of Vasilije Micic — secured with what has been described as a historic contract — Yannay revealed in an interview with Mozzartsport that the club is still active in the market.
“We are in negotiations with another very talented point guard, but I can’t reveal the name at this moment because talks are still ongoing. We are also looking for a stretch four – someone who can shoot from distance. I really wanted Jabari Parker, but Partizan beat us to him… Say hi to Zoran Savić if you speak to him,” Yannay said with a smile.
He also addressed speculation surrounding Serbian forward Filip Petrusev:
“What’s Filip Petrusev’s three-point percentage? You don’t need to check. It’s below 30%… He’s a great player, but not what we’re looking for. For example, Zach LeDay shoots over 40%, but we want someone who not only has high percentages, but also takes a lot of shots consistently. Of course, that’s not easy to find.”
Looking ahead, Hapoel is monitoring player availability across the Atlantic.
“Right now, we’re keeping an eye on the NBA – who might become a free agent. The European market is very limited and facing serious issues. I hope the people in the EuroLeague will listen when I propose some solutions to improve things,” Yannay concluded.
