A new Executive Committee has been elected to run the Malta Rugby Football Union – the governing body of the sport of rugby union in Malta – for the next three years.
The election took place during the Union’s Annual General Meeting which was held on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
It is a committee which is a blend of experience and youth, with one of Malta’s first international team captains, Gerald Strickland, taking on the mantle of MRFU President for the coming term.
The new Executive Committee is made up of the following:
President: Gerald Strickland
Vice-President: Matteo Alessandro
Secretary General: Mauro Miceli
Treasurer: Simon Vella
Public Relations Officer: Damien Davis
The Executive Committee will also be putting forth a motion to co-opt Robert Bonavia into the committee as a Member.
“It is a privilege to take on this voluntary role at such a pivotal moment for Maltese rugby,” the newly elected President Gerald Strickland said.
“Our vision is to build a sport that welcomes everyone—from young players taking their first steps on the pitch to experienced athletes striving for new heights. We are committed to creating a sustainable legacy that we hope will benefit future generations and ensure rugby continues to flourish both locally and beyond our shores,” he said.
“Together, with patience, dedication and teamwork, we can meet the challenges ahead and write the next chapter in Malta’s rugby story,” he concluded.
The new Committee thanks the previous MRFU Executive Committee for the service it has given to Maltese rugby over the past years and looks forward to building on previous efforts to put Maltese rugby on the map both locally and internationally.
