When I was in school we all got in trouble for leaving through a hole in the back fence/door, as it made the walk to the train station / half the town about half hour less. It was supposed to be an emergency exit type thing.
The school then paid around £60,000 for an all singing, all dancing security fenced door. Complete with remote locks, lights, and big warning signs.
Everyone just made a new hole in the wooden fence about 15 meters further down.
You wouldn’t ~~download~~ jump a fence
Ah but if you jump the fence, the badger gets you.
Half of “security” is just establiushing intent for legal purposes. If they actually wanted to stop you they’d try harder, but if they can just prove you intended to tresspass and didn’t accidently wander in, that’s enough.
I mean if you really want to jump a fence you’re going to do it no matter if it’s 2m tall or 1m tall. The fence is more of a signal that this is an area you shouldn’t be in. It isn’t a high security building.
a tall fence won’t discourage someone who really wants to get in
it will discourage random ne’er-do-wells who would otherwise wander in if there was no gate or fence, and they are the majority
It I mean… I’d have to climb it, right? Can’t be arsed with that. Just leave the gate open please
It’s proof we live in the matrix, in games that’s an invisible wall, it’s an invisible wall there. Proof: you didn’t get over it
The remnants of a high trust society. How long will they (and the three-foot high ‘gentleman’s fence’) last?
The business couldn’t get permission to cut the trees most likely, is a public footpath owned by the council?
Ah yes, the “OMG, theres a fence there! clearly your tresspassing.” defense… If they don’y want people entering, do a proper job lol
Remember most security measures are a mental barrier, not a physical barrier.
Reality is that if that gate wasn’t locked and someone broke, in the insurance probably wouldn’t cover it
Feels like a r/notmyjob candidate
If you spend time around people who build stuff for a living, you soon learn their favourite phrase is ‘that’ll do’
You at Brize Norton?
It’s often the same in cybersecurity, too.
Where is this? I feel like I’ve been by this place before
Is this an MOD airfield by any chance..? /S
Military base?
Same where we live massive school security fence identical style almost all the way round, Big gates at the two access points , padlocks, sliding bolts really looking more HMP than a primary school then come to the other side and its a 1970 rotted 3×3 posted , limp 5 wire abomination. for about 25 meters and it been that way for the 3 years so yeah shrug the shoulders.
My son was taken over to Spain to see family for the first time. He was shocked that you had to have your bags checked before getting on a train, and needed to apply for a permit to train spot on the platform. Over here he had drivers let him and his mate into the driver’s cabin

You think this scenario is representative of 99% of security here? Show your working please.
Reminds me of this scene from this unloved (except by me, it seems) movie. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

So much of security is just making it clear that you shouldn’t do something.
76% of statistics are made up on the spot.

100% the council spent 6 months planning and deliberating this and it cost £100,000
