2. The whole point is that you cannot reject sanctions. They are on the other side of the border

3. India has navigated itself into a weird position over the past 20 years.

   Nationalistic, anti democratic tendencies.
   It wants to play by its own rules by all means and sides with a fascist Russia instead of staying out of all that bullshit. They did the same mistake Europe did depending on Russian energy, and now they are Putins Bitch.

6. India is totally unconvinced on a moral level given the Western support for Israël, a country that is doing a lot of the same things Russia does in Ukraine. Also, Trump has destroyed the last remnants of the so-called rules-based international order. The credibility is just not there that would allow us to convince Indians this must be done.

   They will see such sanctions as extreme Western overreach, an act of naked coercion, and as an infringement on their sovereignty and right to choose their own trade partners. I would not count on such sanctions being effective. You can see the counterproductive effects of this kind of coercion and overreach in the response across the world to Trump’s tariffs. Given the aggressive nationalism that is popular in India right now, secondary sanctions will rally the population against the West, increase their tolerance for a painful trade war with the EU/US, and make them more likely to strengthen cooperation with Russia.

   That said, of course India has a completely amoral foreign policy and that is very ugly and quite despicable in the case of Ukraine. It’s just that we need to be realistic in what measures are productive in terms of helping Ukraine.

7. Europe and NATO and Western countries are hard to find and digest the fact that a country like India no longer follow their order and alignment and doing what is best for its People.

   This is not India’s conflict. India had great relationships, time tested with Russia so why suddenly USA or NATO think they India will give up all of that at drop of hat because Western Countries can’t contain the mess they created.

   If it is so much issue, gang up and go to war with Russia, why trouble the people of third unrelated nation.

   Sanctions on India means as much as rejecting those sanctions mean. Zero.

9. Thats because India, as well as China understands that US is bluffing about sanctioning them over Russian oil. US won’t do jack shit if the war isn’t over in 50 days because war will not be over by then. Only an idiot can believe that.
